FINALLY!! DIABETES SOFTWARE FOR MAC OSX USERS

As most of us know by now, there is almost ∅ amount of Diabetes related software for Mac Users, which is why I was elated upon coming across
Diabetes Logbook X 1.0b5 - Track and report diabetes related events. Since Mac does have the "best" Graphics available, why not take advantage of this feature that Developer Paul Nesfield from UK has provided. The Application is a Log Book for all T1DM persons where you can input Glucose levels, Insulin amounts, Carb. numbers, Medications (in addition to Insulin) taken, Ketone data and "Notes" regarding any Problems. It is however formatted in 24hr rather than 12 hr time (which is no big deal). It has a color code that lets you visual "see" your results in the Log Reports that are generated from 7 days to 12 months. One can also "Import" and "Export" Data. Everything is very well done. What I personally would like to have as a possible "Update" is the availability of a scatter and simple line graph as well. Currently the only representation besides the numbers Data is horizontal Bar Graphs in the Report Section. BTW this is a "Freeware"/"Donationware" which is of additional benefit to many. However, since this is a Freeware and Paul Nesfield did take the time to put all this together and make available, why not "Donate" what you are able to offer. He and the Wife must now put the energy, time and anxiety (as we all know) in the caring of their wonderful 6½ yr. old son who was diagnosed w/T1DM 3 years ago. Donations will be going to The Diabetes Association of UK.

I'm not going to use the software (not just yet anyway) but I am going to go by the site and make a small donation.

Thanks so much for telling us about this...I think it's important that we reward 'good' whenever possible...

Thank you for your comment nymom. Good is always self-rewarding.

As usual I can't locate the site so haven't been able to make a donation. My computer skills are just not as good as they should be...

Sigh...

Is there more information I can get, so as to be able to donate????? I know good is self-rewarding; but I like to help it along as well.

Have NON-Intel iMac AND Intel MacBook. Use LifeScan OneTouch Ultra II Glucose Meter. Have seen several Mac software titles online, yours among them, but CANNOT locate an interface cable to allow me to download data from the meter to one of my Macs (Oh, am running OS X 10.5.5).
I've seen references to the LifeScan cable, butthink you have to buy a Serial to USB converter or something in order to use it, which in todays economy is cost prohibitive.
Can you make any suggestions about an Interface Cable?

Thanks...

Hello Vic........
This is the problem with ALL the Glucose Meter Companies. They do not and apparently will not make any Mac compatible software to enable direct downloads from any of the meters that are available.
They all are made to run on a Windows Operating System.
I have called some manufacturers to say that this is unfair to people who use a Mac OS. But like all things, they distribute to the wider market which in this case are the Windows OS.
So what I have to do, is *manually* Download to a Program which is fairly good and Free called Diabetes Logbook X.
Feel free to send me your thoughts and/or questions about this.

Enter iPhone 3G and soon iPhone Operating System 3.0. This phone will do ANYTHING given the right App...
How about this: iPhone can Network using WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth right? Look at the bottom of your OneTuogh Ultra (and probably other meters too), what do you see? An ANCIENT connection method using a PARALLEL connection, requires a cable that costs $30 minimum. Iy you're a Mac OS X user, you have to buy a MODEM CABLE with a Parallel to Serial adapter for Pete's Sake, OVER $30.00.
Seems like when I looked at my Calendar last it said this was 2009... how much do you suppose it would cost a manufacturer to swap out that antique plug on the bottom of your Glucose Meter for either a Mini-USB Plug (like those on Digital Cameras), or make a Bluetooth Dongle to plug into those meters thus allowing WIRELESS transmission of our data from the stupid 18th Century Meters we use and put it in our iPhones... once imported into our iPhone App the data could be Graphed by the software, sent to the Dr or hospital or Diabetes Manager WIRELESSLY for their use, or posted to your ELECTRONIC ONLINE HEALTH RECORD, your Desktop Mac or PC, etc. etc. etc.
COME ON PEOPLE, this is the 21st Century for Christ's sake... Some enterprising iPhone App developer could make $1,000's in conju8nction with a forward looking Meter Manufacturer - next could be iPhone Heart Monitors, insulin pump controllers, you name it, the world would be your Oyster... Hell0... anyone out there... he-l-l-o??

...And here it is 3 years later and every single one of visc43's complaints STILL obtains, DESPITE the huge proliferation of iTouch and iPhone devices and greater market share for Mac in general.

It really reinforces the feeling I've had after 25 years with Type I that these jerks have us over a barrel and they know it. I find it exceedingly difficult to believe they are oblivious to the need to market to a digitally savvy generation (I include myself, though now in my 50s) and provide products commensurate with how their customers live their lives. But they simply refuse to do it. After all, what are we going to do? Stop using their stuff?
