THE PERKS OF BAKING

One of the real advantages to baking is not only in tasting the creation you have made, but sharing it with those you love or/and care about.

Such is the case as I decided to bake Cinnamon Doughnuts last evening so that I could have it with a great cup of coffee from selected aromatic arabic beans which I grind every morning.
After letting the dough rise and proofing it, I then baked the doughnuts to a beautiful golden tan color after upon which I applied melted sweet butter to the tops and sprinkled cinnamon sugar on each.
The smells from the cinnamon on a cold winter night was inviting and warm as the doughnuts "rested" only until the following morning to be consumed with delicious coffee and of-course enough Novolog to make this possible.
The remainder of the doughnuts I share with all of you for the Holidays and to one of my neighbors who has recently given birth to a new Life.

They were good Scott and the additional units of Novolog helped to keep everything in balance.
If you lived nearby Scott, I would happily bake some for you and your family. The adavantage of baked over deep oil fried is just that......less grease, so better for your health. lol

Sounds good--right now the coffee is the most enticing part for me.
I wonder what a doughnut would taste like were it not completely fried and drowned in oil!

Amylia....there are no words to describe what a proofed/yeast flour creation of dough smells like, feels like, and tastes as it warmly comes out of the oven transformed into a doughnut with the smell of real cinnamon flowing through the air and into my waiting mouth to be chewed slowly with a cup of good coffee as a chaser in the cold morning hours here in the Wintertime.
It is like asking someone to describe what Love feels like...........

For pity sake, Barry, here I am reading this after getting home from work and I haven't had my supper yet!!!

I remember years ago there was a catchy advertising jingle that said "Nothin' says lovin' like somethin' from the oven, and Pillsbury says it best".

Here in the Midwest, food is a great calling card - to a grieving family, a sick friend, joyous holiday gatherings and yes, a new baby. I am so glad that people also do it in NYC - what a lovely gesture. (Although here we woud no doubt fry the donuts in lard............yikes!!!!)

Take Scott along with you so that he also can enjoy the doughnuts. "My door is open" to those with T1DM who enjoy food and are not afraid to eat (participate in Life).
