SUBWAY MUSINGS Ⅰ

What better way when you are on a subway to get from point A to point B, then by thoughts. There are of-course other options such as, reading, sitting and starring in vacuous space, breathing in the laden germs left over from someone's cough or sneeze thrown into the closed air for all to share, listening to an iPod. The listening to an iPod which seems to be the preferable way to look these days on the subway, will eventually fall and disappear from sight as did what they replaced which carried the same passion, popularity and hipness......Sonny's Walkman.
My thoughts brought me to the feeling that there should be the availability of Insulin made FREE to all who cannot manufacture it within their bodies. That of-course would be applied to T1DM. Insulin is similar to water, without it, there would be no Life available. Too much of it, and the same Life would cease to exist. Yes, the same applies to Water. There have been a number of Deaths due to the over-consumption of Water, which caused Sodium levels to be displaced.
The Free Availability of Insulin would be made available to ALL who needed it in-order to Survive/Live regardless of Economic Standings. There would be the elimination of Red Tape and Bureaucracy which stands in the way for making things "Happen" in a timely way, so that anyone whose Life depended on Insulin(T1DM), would have it. BTW, this Red Tape and Bureaucracy is/was responsible for the horrendous problems that were uncovered at V.A. Hospitals throughout the U.S.A. in general and Walter Reade specifically.

My mother-in-law pays for oxygen. I think that should be free too.

I agree, Shannon.....not only Free, but w/o any Bureaucratic "nonsense" that stands in the way of getting "Life-Depended Medication/Supplies available to those in need.

What a novel idea.

If all of US got together Sarah, one day in Washington, DC w/Placards
and a Marching Permit, we would have all the media attention be made
aware of our NEEDS and Dependence on a substance that allows us to
wake up each morning and Live our Lives as best we can. This
substance(Insulin) for many people is not affordable, prevents enough
monies being spent of other non-important things things(Food)....LOL and day to day Living
expenses.

Interesting concept. Most other industrialized democracies take it a step further and offer healthcare coverage to ALL who need it in-order to survive regardless of economic standing. In the U.S., we cover the elderly, but not children (is that a backwards priority?).

I suppose some would call me a communist, but I believe that free markets only work with appropriate regulation, maybe not to the extent that exists in say France, but U.S. law permits healthcare providers to exclude huge segments of the population due to "pre-existing conditions" (such as diabetes), and that may be good for business, but should be outlawed. This is one area where I think free markets need more regulation than they have today.

Hi Scott, your Feedback is always welcomed.
In this country, the Elderly are not completely covered when it comes to Needed Medications. They are locked into a plan that will offer only certain items in their Drug Formulary made available. There is also a Fee, which a Fair Percentage of the Elderly are not able to afford. It often means a choice between necessary medications or Food. If this is a choice that someone w/T1DM has to make, then it is a Total Loss since Food is much a part of his Medication as is Insulin.
The System Stinks!! The PR that is put out there does not reflect what is truly going on among people who depend on their Drugs like Insulin (and many others) to Live and Survive.
As far as the Free Market is concerned, I support it and know its importance within the Country. Without it, there would be NO Incentive to Research/Develop new Drugs as well as bring them to the Marketplace so as to "help" people with their Diseases. There has to be that Middle Passage, where again needed pharmaceuticals would be made available Gratis to people who cannot afford them, minus the "Red Tape" and Bureaucracies that is all too often involved and which by its own power causes mistakes, disruption as well as the unavialbility of many Medications.
